The Nacra winery is a personal and family project developed on the Can Corró estate, located at the foot of Puig de Santa Magdalena, in Inca, where two native varieties of vine are grown: Malvasía and Giró, and where the winery has been built. The estate, Can Corró, is a family plot of land owned by Magdalena Llabrés, of about two hectares, which was cultivated as pasture for sheep. In this enclave of Inca, with views of the Serra de Tramuntana, her husband, Professor at the UIB, Hipólito Medrano, embarked a few years ago on the adventure of planting vines with two native varieties, Malvasía and Giró, and producing and marketing their wines. In this way, Hipólito and his team began the task of transforming into a wine the knowledge accumulated after a lifetime dedicated to researching the physiology of plants and, specifically, of the vine, and to recovering and highlighting the native varieties of Mallorca. Among these tasks, the sanitation and recovery of the Banyalbufar malvasia was a project on which he worked for years with passion. Through the cultivation of meristems “in vitro” and meticulous and prolonged work carried out in the laboratories and greenhouses of the UIB and with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, virus-free malvasia specimens were obtained that obtained official certification.
